Chapter 77: The Exchange

By the time the day changed direction, nobody in the room was prepared for where it would lead.

Adrian poses as Owen while Claire and Helena monitor from the service tunnels. Marcus arrives with explosives and the edited recording.

Adrian understood that the next choice would be remembered long after the explanation. Lucy remained the line neither of them would cross. Whatever happened between the adults, their daughter would not be asked to purchase harmony with her own safety.

Marcus recognizes Adrian and locks Claire below as the tide rises.

"You always choose the building, Vale. Let us see if she believes you changed."

Claire felt the old instinct to protect everyone from discomfort. This time she let the truth remain in the room.

Adrian drops the recording and runs toward Claire.
