Chapter 37: Marcus Wants Out

For a few careful minutes, the world looked almost ordinary.

Marcus claims Victor ordered the museum abduction scare but says he never intended Lucy to be harmed. He offers recordings in exchange for immunity and protection.

Claire understood that the next choice would be remembered long after the explanation. Lucy remained the line neither of them would cross. Whatever happened between the adults, their daughter would not be asked to purchase harmony with her own safety.

Claire records the meeting, but Marcus notices and takes her phone.

"You have her courage. That is going to get you killed."

Claire felt the old instinct to protect everyone from discomfort. This time she let the truth remain in the room.

Adrian arrives to find Claire's abandoned coat beside Marcus's car.
