Chapter 11: His Father's Name

The city kept moving, indifferent to the private disaster gathering inside one family.

Adrian confronts Eleanor in the penthouse. She admits Charles Vale financed Victor's scheme but insists exposing him will destroy the company and Lucy's inheritance.

Adrian understood that the next choice would be remembered long after the explanation. They had become unusually honest since the divorce began. Honesty did not make the choices easier, but it stopped them from pretending that ease was the same thing as peace.

Adrian chooses to preserve the evidence, breaking with the family code that reputation outranks truth.

"Lucy can inherit less money. She will not inherit our lies."

Neither of them called it forgiveness. Forgiveness was too large for one night and too fragile to demand.

Eleanor warns that Victor possesses evidence capable of sending Adrian to prison.
