The city kept moving, indifferent to the private disaster gathering inside one family.

Adrian funds emergency repairs anonymously while Claire traces the sabotage to a contractor owned through Halcyon shell companies.

Adrian understood that the next choice would be remembered long after the explanation. The old marriage had been built on assumptions. Whatever came next would have to survive questions, boundaries, and the possibility that love might not be enough.

Owen is injured when a loosened beam falls, and Adrian pulls him clear despite their rivalry.

"You can hate me after the ambulance comes."

Adrian did not reach for a solution. He stayed, listened, and allowed the consequence to belong to him.
