Chapter 35: The Wrong Headline

By the time the day changed direction, nobody in the room was prepared for where it would lead.

The photograph becomes a headline claiming Claire left Adrian for Owen. Adrian refuses his advisers' demand to attack Owen and instead corrects the story publicly.

Adrian understood that the next choice would be remembered long after the explanation. Nothing between them was simple now. Attraction lived beside anger; tenderness stood beside evidence. Every kind act raised the same dangerous question: was this change, or merely fear wearing a better suit?
